St. Leo's Soup Kitchen

Hello everyone! My name is Layla Bullock, I’m in the 10th grade and I play Junior Varsity for Renaissance Girls Basketball. Today my team and I volunteered at the Soup Kitchen. It was an extremely eye opening experience for a lot of us, including myself. Today I realized how blessed I am to have parents with well paying jobs, a roof over my head, and a caring hand to feed me everyday. This experience will stick with me for the rest of my life. I am thankful for everything I have been blessed with. This was also an educational experience. Soup kitchens like *St. Leo's) depend on food donations from local groceries and supermarkets. This was also a fun bonding experience with the team. I learned things about my teammates and coaches that I was unaware of. The people we fed were so thankful to get handed that plate. I’ll never forget seeing a 9 or 10 year old little girl waiting to get some food. This saddened me. At her age, I took full meals for granted in a house with my family. I wasn't even aware that there were kids in the streets struggling to get a meal. The chance to give back to these amazing people was a life changing experience. I hope to do it again.
