Queen of the Court!!- Mikyah Finley
Updated: Aug 29, 2019
Hi, my name is Mikyah Finley. I am entering my junior year at Renaissance High School and I am 2 year varsity letterwinner. I’ve been playing basketball for 7 years. I also play aau basketball for the Michigan storm. When I started playing basketball, I wasn’t like most people who were “born to play”. I was a beginner who didn’t know how to do ANYTHING. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Kailee Davis (my teammate since 5th grade) I would have never been introduced to basketball, which I have a high passion for. This past week I participated in two tournaments; the PSB summer (Brandon clay) tournament in Cartersville, Georgia and the Under Armour (UAA) tournament In Atlanta, Georgia. There were a lot of college coaches recruiting many young talented athletes at both events. Ther exposure was insane! During the course of the summer, I’ve been training hard for the upcoming season and beyond. I'm determined to the get to the next level of women’s basketball.
This past Tuesday at school, we worked on ball handling drills and shooting. We also played queen of the court. The queen of the court drill focuses on creating a highly competitive environment in which players can challenge each other for bragging rights. We broke into 3 groups of 3, with the winner of each group advancing to the final matchup. I was able to pull out the victory by applying new moves i've been working on. My offensive arsenal is a work in progress, but I'm improving daily! The winner won cupcakes!! as the summer workouts continies I am loving how my teammates push each other to get better each day. I'm looking forward to a breakout season for the team and myself. Talk to you guys later!!
